When The Trust Breaks

Rico has had a rough life. Shunned by her parents for not following in her father’s footsteps to join the Air Force, she decides on the Army instead. During basic training, she meets her bestie, James Gregory, who becomes like a brother from another mother to her. However, during a routine ride in Afghanistan, a roadside IED takes him from her. She loses her shyt. She then finds her way back home with her DD-214 and a diagnosis that has her seeking therapy to hopefully get better and to rid herself of the nightmares of losing James. Her therapist tells her to get out of the house and around people, so her compromise is to get out and see animals, because, well, there are actual people there still, but she doesn’t have to actually interact with them — though she’s with them. She finds a little monster that has caught her eye, but, unknown to her, she's also caught the eye of someone else in the store.

A runaway pet catches her attention, and she rescues it for its owner, who, unknown to her, turns out to be the star power forward for the Charlotte Reign. The WNBA team in Charlotte drafted the star, Tasha Bell, in the first round two seasons earlier, but Rico has no idea who she is when she hands the dog back. Keeping her guard up, she ignores the flirtatious ways of Tasha. Tasha sneaks her number, then keeps texting her and asking to hang out. She invites her to a game, without telling her that she is a player for the team, only that “basketball” is her job. Rico is shocked to learn Tasha is a player, and things take a different turn.

Will they end up together and find love with the runaway, or will Rico keep her guard up and keep complaining through therapy?
